Clancy the orange cat has had no slowdown of this love for high-end food. No raw shrimp is safe in his presence. In fact, what he doesn’t find interesting is often more fascinating that what he favors.

He still loves to sit on my shoulder as I cook. But even that love is evolving. Now, he’ll leap to my shoulder when I linger at a window. Any window. And occasionally, when I’m at the mirror. Unfortunately, he hasn’t yet figured out the difference between a clothed shoulder and an unprotected one. As the body seeks balance, the claws seek purchase…too often in skin.

I’ve taught myself not to react when I feel his lithe body looming. But the claws. Owww. I love his shoulder-trick too much to discourage it; now if only I can teach him the right time to shut it off.
