Short post for now. Full of five of the most horrific sentences a writer can hear (in no particular order)…

• “It’s not right for us at this time….”

• “That’s…interesting.”

• “I would have done it differently.” (this usually from a friend who fancies himself a writer but who has never come close to being published.)

• “Perhaps it just needs more work.”

• “Be a secretary. That way, you’ll always have something to fall back on.”

We meet them with a polite smile. And a gnashing of teeth. And a desire to retreat to a private mental place where no one speaks to us. Ever.

Ahhh, the life of a writer.
